RealView Developer Suite
Everything in one place
RealView Developer Suite integrates all the main tools an engineer requires to create efficient software for any ARM procesor. RVDS includes several main components, many of which were also available in the earlier ARM Developer Suite or ADS:
- Compilation tools (RVCT) consisting of a fully optimising ISO C/C++ compiler and linker
- GUI debugger (RVD) with OS awareness and Multi-core debug
- Instruction set simulator
- Command-line debugger for scripting and other command line use
- Comprehensive online documentation
- Image creation tools for creating binary and various hex file formats
ARM released RVDS version 2.1 in April 2004.
RVDS operates with other RealView tools including ICE, Trace and Integrator. RVDS supports Windows, Solaris and Linux.

Older Versions (ADS)
Many ARM developers will be familiar with ADS, or ARM Developer Suite. This has been superceeded by RealView Developer Suite. However, it is shipped free with RVDS and may be used in place of RVDS if required. It is then possible to migrate your projects to RVDS as time permits. A utility allows switching between the two products.
Special Versions
ARM have released two 'special' versions of RVDS to address specific markets. These also incorporate the older ARM Developer Suite (ADS) functionality.
- RealView Developer Suite for XScale Developer Kit includes the compilation tools and debugger for XScale only. It also includes a Multi-ICE unit. XScale is an implementation of the ARM architecture by Intel. This toolkit provides a very low cost way of getting access to an RVDS + ICE kit if all you need to use is XScale.
- RealView Developer Kit for Oki includes a cut-down version of RealView ICE and RVDS specifically for Oki ARM chips. It can only be used with Oki chips. This is supplied from Oki and through Oki distributors. Unfortunately we cannot supply it.
