Snapper Single Board Computer Modules
Snapper is a revolutionary snap-in system concept developed by Bluewater Systems which delivers the core elements of an ARM-based product on a compact, ready to use, microprocessor module. Using Snapper enables an engineering team to develop products faster, focus on unique features and deliver a lower overall development cost.
Why Use a Snapper System Module
Designing electronic products is becoming more and more complex as markets demand more features, higher integration and short design cycles. The traditional monolithic approach to design (which long ago ran out of steam in silicon design) is becoming more expensive, risky and inflexible.
Snapper System Modules address this need by integrating the complex (but common) high-speed digital core of a device onto a single, small form factor PCB, which can then be easily embedded in a design.
A Snapper System Module's small size makes it possible to integrate it into virtually any product, even small portable devices. Bluewater Systems' ARM-based system modules use very little power, utilising power saving design techniques both within chips and on the board. Systems modules also shield the carrier board from high-speed signals such as the SDRAM interface, therefore increasing system reliability and reducing emissions.
By using a Snapper System Module in your design, you can:
- Reduce development time, and therefore time to market
- Decrease development cost
- Achieve a similar or better product unit cost
- Avoid design 8 - 12 layer PCBs with complex BGAs and the associated production yield headaches
- Substantially reduce your project risk
- Jump to the latest technology without the nasty learning curve
- Focus on the important and unique aspects of your design, rather than the common (but complex) core
Snapper 255
The original Snapper module, with a 400MHz Marvell processor, an Altera FPGA, Ethernet, USB host/device, 64MB SDRAM, up to 512MB of flash, LCD, PCMCIA and many other features. Probably the most flexible module on the market thanks to the options provided by its FPGA.
Snapper CL15
This is a low-cost module with a remarkable feature set. It includes a 200MHz ARM920T with 1280x1024 LCD controller with graphics accelerations, 64MB SDRAM, up to 512MB of flash, 3 USB host ports, High-Speed (480Mbps) USB device, PCMCIA and IDE ports.
Snapper 270
This Single Board Computer Module incorporates a 520MHz Marvell PXA270 (ARM v5 compatible), 128MB of SDRAM, up to 512MB of flash, 10/100 Ethernet, audio codec, LCD controller, touchscreen, 4-bit SD card, USB host and device, PWMs, ADC and serial UARTs.
Snapper 9260
Designed to be the ultimate value proposition, Snapper 9260 is a low-cost, mid-performance module utilising the latest DSP-enabled ARM9 core. It includes a 180MHz Atmel AT91SAM9260, 64MB SDRAM, up to 256MB of flash, up to 40 GPIOs, 4-channel A/D input, I2C, SPI, SDIO and CF.
This extends the Snapper 9260 design with a lower power 1V core, operation to 400MHz and 128MB SDRAM, for applications where more processing speed is required.
